Re: NEW: Talend Cloud Story Contest

  1. What was the challenge you faced? One of our automotive clients receives data from a vendor. The vendor provides sales data in a flat file format to our client that would be used to generate interactive mobile reports using Roambi. The challenge face was migrating data from flat file sources into Roambi.
  2. Why did you decide to use the cloud? As an IT Consulting firm, we are constantly looking for ways to get projects done for our clients more efficiently. A lot of our clients choose us for our low cost model and our quickness. We searched for solutions to cut our time down and found Talend. Now, a project that might have taken us 8 hours now takes us 30 minutes with Talend.
  3. What cloud technology did you choose? Amazon.
  4. Walk us through how you solved the problem.

Here's the workflow we used:

A. Flat file data from Polk will be selected as data input in Talend job

B. Talend job runs and filters or transforms data real time

C. Talend writes a flat file in the format that Roambi expects

D. Upload new file to Roambi

      5. What was the business impact? (e.g. Did it create more sales, drive less costs, or increase productivity? Feel free to illustrate both the technical and emotional benefits you or the organization realized.)

Talend is such a robust platform with so many time and money saving features. The time it took to complete this task was cut significantly. Now, if we want to do something similar for a different client, we can do it quickly and efficiency. This frees up time for us to work on other projects and help other clients. The main benefits we saw were:

-Reduced costs of developer rates

-Highly efficient ETL

-Less errors due to nonmanual entry

-Customized to meet our needs

-Support from the Talend community

-Adaptable to different needs

Now, when our clients come to us, we can confidently suggest a solution that involves Talend. We cannot recommend it enough!

  1. What was the challenge you faced?
    • A New England retail energy firm providing energy services to households needed to access, prepare and utilize client data to support business objectives including getting insight in client energy needs in order to design energy solutions  to best meet them.  Client data is in a variety of locations including a Cloudera Hadoop cluster and SFDC.
  2. Why did you decide to use the cloud?
    • Talend Integration Cloud provided a platform to get data integration value without the cost normally associated with 1) setting up on-premise systems, and 2) resources needed to manage system updates and maintain the environment.

    • Talend Integration Cloud uses the secure Amazon cloud for scheduling, monitoring and managing data integration workflows.
  1. Walk us through how you solved the problem.
    • We assessed our business and technology needs and evaluated the options available in the market.  Talend staff demoed the Talend platform capabilities to us, We did a full-fledged POC with a Hadoop data-crunching job and Salesforce data integration, we felt they met our needs in a cost effective way and we procured the solution with Abilis Solutions, a local New England Partner (www.abilisne.com ).
  2. What was the business impact? (e.g. Did it create more sales, drive less costs, or increase productivity? Feel free to illustrate both the technical and emotional benefits you or the organization realized.)
    • We are implementing Talend Cloud and expect to get the following benefits:
      1. Client insights- we expect to get better insights on our clients with smart SFDC and Hadoop data integration.
      2. Efficiency- Data will be harvested from our core source system in the most efficient manner, reducing costs associated with hand-coding and more expensive tooling.
      3. Product solutions- We pride ourselves on offering renewable energy alternatives to customers to deliver both 1) cost effective energy solutions and 2) green solutions that align with our mission.

Re: NEW: Talend Cloud Story Contest

  1. What was the challenge you faced?  One of our clients had workflows for importing their data. Each workflow had several sub-jobs. The client needed a way to update instead of inserting items.
  2. Why did you decide to use the cloud? The cloud created a quick copy of the insert that allowed easy editing and setup of workflows.
  3. What cloud technology did you choose? Please mention all the cloud technologies used (i.e. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, private cloud, etc.)

For this problem we used Microsoft SQL Server, SalesForce, our private cloud and Oracle.

  4. Walk us through how you solved the problem.

The following subjobs are defined for each workflow and are run in the following order:

    • Load McKesson Flat File
      • Loads McKesson flat file data into ETL.hme.DataFeed and do some filtering
      • Logs rejected input to spreadsheet

    • Groups
      • Creates group level item records (product)

    • Items
      • Creates option/SKU level item records.
      • Logs rejected input to spreadsheet

    • Catalog/Category
      • Item record category and catalog mappings get adjusted

    • Brand
      • Brand validation and reloading for all items

    • Product Description
      • Creates product level description records

    • Option Description
      • Creates option/SKU level description records

    • Remove HTML Descriptions
      • Removes all HTML tags from all description records that were just created

    • Images
      • Adds images from file to Warehouse.dbo.images and creates associations between image records and items

    • Attributes
      • This job runs a script outside of Talend to create Attributes (grid) for all imported items

    C:\Talend\Workspace\McKessonETL_AttributeMapping_FINAL.sql

What was the business impact? (e.g. Did it create more sales, drive less costs, or increase productivity? Feel free to illustrate both the technical and emotional benefits you or the organization realized.) Talend is a powerful tool that takes an input and writes or converts to an output.
We were able to quickly solve a time sensitive problem, which is very important to keeping our client satisfied with our consultation. Productivity improved for them and for us.

Re: NEW: Talend Cloud Story Contest

  • What was the challenge you faced?

I work for TESCHGlobal, a modern professional services company committed to enabling data-driven organizations through delivery of customized application development and data management solutions. One of our clients, DMD Marketing, a pioneer in healthcare digital communications and connectivity, needed a scalable integration platform to support its substantial growth and data management demands. Their data needed to be staged, cleansed, processed and published quickly so DMD clients have access to credible information on-demand. A key challenge was to build a repeatable framework with appropriate client modules for specific business logic to process millions of incoming data records coming from alliances with the American Medical Association (AMA), American Dental Association (ADA), among other Specialty Healthcare Provider Associations. We also needed to ensure existing legacy processes could be ported over to the cloud smoothly.

  • Why did you decide to use the cloud?

DMD landed on Talend Cloud (TC) because of its cost-effective, speed-to-deployment, and flexible solution that can be easily scaled to meet the accessibility and quality demands of their massive health care practitioner (HCP) database for pharmaceutical marketers, medical agencies, hospitals and other healthcare specialists.

We saw 3 key needs:

  1. Abstract management and maintenance of hardware
  2. Easily set up and configure an infrastructure
  3. Integrate into cloud-based source and target applications

  • What cloud technology did you choose? Please mention all the cloud technologies used (i.e. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, private cloud, etc.)

We chose Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS, and Talend Cloud.

  • Walk us through how you solved the problem.

We (TESCHGlobal) partnered with DMD to understand first and foremost their business requirements. Then an implementation roadmap was developed with crucial deliverables including, but not limited to, the configuration of the entire TC platform with a migration strategy to convert legacy stored procedure processes with Talend’s modern workflows and integration jobs.

  • What was the business impact? (e.g. Did it create more sales, drive less costs, or increase productivity? Feel free to illustrate both the technical and emotional benefits you or the organization realized.)

By leveraging Talend’s tools, DMD was able to mitigate change management risk and quickly meet and exceed its data management demands putting them ahead of competition. They also have been reported one of the highest users of the Talend Cloud. It also has allowed them to achieve data agility and decreased development turnaround times. In addition, they have realized decreased R&D costs due to the subscription based model with AWS; decreased dependency on infrastructure management; and extracted the management of hardware and software allowing the focus to be on development efforts

Re: NEW: Talend Cloud Story Contest

  1. What was the challenge you faced?
We had 6 month to get up and running the data supply chain management for more than 500 000 devices (at that time, 2.5 million now) collected through 2000 gateways that connect every hour and poors 10 to 20 data format files (each gateway)
  2. Why did you decide to use the cloud?
We used private cloud at first mainly not to have to manage infrastructure and uptime
We moved parts to public cloud for analytics and reporting purposes then we started building the serverless data supply chain for small clients
  3. What cloud technology did you choose? Please mention all the cloud technologies used (i.e. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, private cloud, etc.)
    Microsoft Azure and private cloud
  4. Walk us through how you solved the problem.
Data is not a problem it's a challenge. Being able to quickly itteratively implement and deploy jobs was key to success. Having reliable and available consultants helped a lot. We mainly fast built the first jobs and kept improving and scaling them up through refactoring parallelization, infrastructure and database upgrades and fine tunning.
  5. What was the business impact? (e.g. Did it create more sales, drive less costs, or increase productivity? Feel free to illustrate both the technical and emotional benefits you or the organization realized.)
Mainly we delivered in time with a most cost effective and scalable solution
