Idea Suggestion Guidelines

Your ideas are important to us and we take every one seriously. Before you get started, make sure you review the following.

Remember that search field—Don’t forget to search the community before submitting a new idea. We’d hate for you to waste your time writing something up that has already been submitted or already has an answer.

Draft your idea—To help the community understand what you’re suggesting, try to put the idea in the form of user stories and be sure to include your rationale and an idea of customer value. The more we know about your idea – who it’s for, what the motivation is, and what the actual item is, the more accurate we’ll be when it comes time to prioritize and size it.

Consider using the following user story format:


As a (role) I want (something) so that (benefit).


Some things to include:


  • The Role: who (what type of user) is the feature for?
  • The Something: what is it that the user wants to do – the goal and/or desire?
  • The Benefit: why do they need it—what do they need to accomplish? What value do they derive from the feature.
  • And additional descriptive context, for example …
  • The category or component your idea is about (e.g. blogs, REST API, user authentication, integration, kudos, social support, etc.)
  • Screenshots, pictures, drawings, process diagrams, etc.
  • Examples of other places or products where you’ve seen the feature or something like it.
  • A sense of priority or desired timeframe.
  • If you’re feeling very generous, feel free to write down some acceptance criteria too!

And finally, don’t forget to fulfill your civic duty and VOTE for those items you like and agree with by giving the idea a kudo.

Status Definitions and Process
Every idea has merit—we’ll endeavor to review each one in a timely manner and put it through the paces to determine community and customer value, viability, and fit with Talend’s strategic mission in life. Each idea will be moved through a disposition lifecycle, described below.

New Idea—sparkly new ideas, submitted by you, are ready to be voted on. We’ll set each of these ideas on a course to get feedback from the community and a definitive disposition from Talend's product team.

Comments Requested—a new idea might need clarification or additional feedback to help us gauge its customer impact. Ideas with this status will be open to the community for votes and constructive comments to help us make a better decision. We’ll give everyone a few weeks to pipe in, before moving the idea forward or providing another resolution.

Under Investigation—once the community has had a chance to comment and vote, some ideas will need a deeper dive to determine market fit and initial technical scoping. Items may be in this status for a couple weeks, and we will endeavor to get back to the community with a definitive answer as quickly as possible.

Uncommitted Candidate—items in this status have met our criteria and are officially on the Talend product backlog! The Talend product team continuously monitors the backlog for ongoing prioritization and, in time, slots each idea for further technical scoping and implementation.

Suggestion Provided—while all ideas have merit, sometimes the fit and path forward for the product is not quite right, so we’ll recommend an alternative course or workaround. Perhaps a services engagement, a custom implementation, or a partner will deliver the idea home.

Accepted—not only has your idea been vetted by the community and the Talend product team, but we’ve also slotted a forthcoming release for it. Look for it in the near future!

Partially Delivered - your idea is so big that we were only able to get part of it delivered so far. Breaking your idea up will help get important pieces of it vetted and delivered faster. We will re-review ideas with this status periodically.

Delivered—mega woohoo! The idea has been implemented and delivered to our customers. Look for the release version denoted in the item, and check out the Talend release notes for details on how to start using it.

Declined - due to low of strategic fit or technical feasibility, ideas with this status are not being considered for the product roadmap and cannot be implemented by our services department or partner network without some major heavy lifting. Thank you for your contribution, every idea has merit.

Duplicate—oops, items in this status have already been submitted in some form or another. We’ll link these items over to the original idea so you can review the status or track the progress there.

Archived—ideas with this status are have not had any community activity in over a year, or are for features that are phased out and do not have any more enhancements planned. Get a glimpse of history here.

Unspecified—these ideas have been moved into from another community board and need to be triaged.

Can I sugest you work on increasing the logging capability of Talend.   As an Informatica user, One of the things I have seen Informatica do better than Talend is the quality of the logging output in the workflow monitors.  When you come from Informatica, and then get hit with java exception messages such as Unable to convert BigDecimal to Long, or Null Pointer Exceptions, it isn't very helpful.


If you extract a workflow or session log from Informatica and compare it the output from Talend, I think it will be obvious what the difference is - unless you are pitching Talend at java developers and not ETL engineers.
