Talend-Studio-macosx-cocoa.app can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer

Default security settings on Mac OS X prevent you launching Talend Studio and other Talend executables, and may say that the files are damaged and can't be opened. This article describes this issue and provides a resolution.

This article only applies to Mac OS X platforms with Gatekeeper activated (available from OS X 10.7.5). It uses Talend Studio as an example, but applies to all Talend products up to and including version 6.0.1.

When trying to launch your Talend Studio for the first time, you may see the following message.

The reason for this message is because Talend Studio is considered unsafe by Gatekeeper, which prevents it from starting.

Gatekeeper is a feature in recent versions of Mac OS X that controls the launching of applications. You can find out more information about Gatekeeper on Apple's page "What is security".

By default, the security preferences of Gatekeeper only allow applications downloaded from the Mac App Store to be launched. As the Talend Studio is downloaded from the Talend website, Gatekeeper considers it as an unidentified developer and blocks it.

If you are confident the app downloaded from the Internet is the latest version and is from a source you trust, you can open an app from an unidentified developer by following these steps.

Note: In most cases, you will only have to perform these steps once for all user accounts on the Mac.

  1. In Finder, Control-click or right click the icon of the app.
  2. Select Open from the top of contextual menu that appears.

  3. Click Open in the dialog box. If prompted, enter an administrator name and password.

Note: If there is an app that presents multiple Gatekeeper dialog boxes, you can temporarily use Gatekeeper's "Always" option. Make sure to restore the Gatekeeper option that was there before to bring back Gatekeeper function.
