I am currently using Talend Open Studio for Data Integration Version: 5.6.3.
I am quite happy using this version. Nevertheless, I am thinking about updating soon. I need to have up to date components and use a supported version of Java.
I've been trying 6.4.1, 6.5.1 and now 7.0.1 and every time I experienced the same very bad regression with Talend. I’ve been trying to workaround this issue without any success. This is very important for me!
My issue: I cannot customise properly the layout of my workspace…
Talend allow users to customise the layout for its needs. The following screenshot from the documentation will explain what I am talking about.
Having the palette on the right is no use for me. I barely using it and when I need it; it is one of my left panels. Moreover, I have customised other panels. The version 5.6.3 is keeping my customised perspective at every start-up. This custom layout allows me to work efficiently.
Unfortunately, recent versions don’t allow me keeping my custom layout at all.
This is one the thing that I’ve tried:
1] Customise the layout
2] Save the layout as a new perspective
3] Check that Talend is aware of this new perspective
Unfortunately, this custom perspective will be lost on the next start-up…
Other investigations led me to believe that the issue seems to be located here:
It could be the only location of the custom perspectives:
Editing this file confirm partially that my saved perspective is defined there. Unfortunately, this file is deleted at every start-up!
I tried to change privileges on this file without success.
It seems that before I update all the essential libraries: I could have kept a custom layout saved.
Is it something that I miss to allow me keeping my custom perspective?
Is there any preference / tweak that I can use?
Is it a bug from Talend?
I am really looking forward to finding a solution for this issue.
So far, the default perspective structure will come back at every start up.
This default setting is not ideal for me. Moreover, it is not only the palette that is returning to is previous status; it is every customisation!
I don’t see the point to have to customise TOS at every start up. Either users cannot customize TOS, at all, or users could save their customisations (perspective). I don’t want to spend 5 min every morning to have TOS with the layout that I want.
I could have accepted your solution if it was any way to save a custom perspective. But, as you can see in my initial query. I cannot save my custom customization / perspective. Therefore, I believe that this is a bug in TOS.
I am really looking forward for a solution.
I was able to test this issue on a brand-new computer. It is the same!
I keep saying that it is a bug and I am right to say that:
1] It is a chapter on the documentation about customization.
It is useless to allow customizations if it is impossible to save them.
2] It is an unfinished topic on your old forum, from 2016
On this topic you said that you were going to test it and come back to the user.
Thank you for any help
Sorry for our silence. We do our best to answer as many posts as possible.
According to this documentation, you can customize the Palette layout and setting according to your needs.
We are able to change the layout and position of Palette from right to left and save the change on V 6.5.1, window 10.
Hello, I agree with JJC.
I'm using version 6.4.1 of TOS DI and I have same problem.
Problem occur AFTER plugins installation.
You can affectively save a custom perspective but when you close IDE and restart it,
saved perspective have disappear from list of loadable perspectives.
It's very annoying !
Best regards, VBO
Thanks for your feedback. I feel less lonely!
Regarding, the previous reply, I noticed that the application was: Talend Data Fabric
VBO and myself are using Talend Open Studio Data Integration. It may work on Data Fabric but not on TOS DI. Moreover, according to the documentation, it should be possible to keep customizations. Nevertheless, it seems to be impossible after having plugins updated.
Are there other users with this kind of issue?
For users not experiencing this issue, did you update plugins?
Did anybody find a workaround?
Thank you for any help
Thanks for your reply and update. We will making an ivestigation on talend open studio 6.5 to see if this issue repro after having plugins updated. We will come back to you as soon as we can.
Hello, thanks to you.
A little precision, read "Additional packages" in place of "plug-ins".
This include third parties packages.
Have a nice day.
Here is additionals info.
I install from fresh and ZIPPED TOS-DI 6.5.1M4.
Just after that, I check this feature WITHOUT installing any additional packages.
The feature work correctly ==> reorganized layout stay after reload IDE, saving and recall custom perspective work too even after reloading IDE.
Then I install REQUIRED third parties packages.
After that, layout was reset to original configuration and previous saved custom gone away.
I'm trying to save layout into custom perspective, perspective is saved and recallable.
But after reload IDE once more, it was gone again and then can't be recalled.
Best regards, VBO
I think I've found the glitch :-)
During some test to manage another problem, I was surprise that my perspective was kept by my TOS DI 6.4.1 IDE.
I try to repeat the process and yes, it work ! (for me for instance)
I think that problem come with the "non configuration" of some informations on the connection to workspace part.
Then, try this ==>
1. create a new folder for your workspace
2. open TOS DI studio
3. click on button "Manage Connections"
4. fill in field "Name" with a value other than the default value (default = "Local") * optional
5. do the same with field "Description" (default = "Default connection") * optional
6. fill in field "User E-mail" with other value than default too (default = "firstname.lastname@example.org") * REQUIRED !
7. continue with opening procedure
8. customize your IDE and save (or not) perspective
9. close IDE
10. re-open IDE, custom perspective is kept (normally, lol)
11. if it work, import your previous projects from your previous workspace
Some remarks :
1. Before doing that, install required third-parties packages
2. It's absolutely required to create a new fresh wrokspace, old ones can't work !!
3. The only real constraint is the user mail, it's not necessary that it exist in real but it MUST be change !!
Tell me if it work for you please
