How to Install Talend MDM on Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Overview

This article will show you how to install Talend MDM components using Amazon Web Services.

 

The installation will use an AWS Relational Database Service (RDS) MySQL instance for the database, and will install the binaries on an AWS Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Linux instance.

 

Environment

  • Talend 6.4.1 MDM Platform
  • RDS MySQL Instance
  • EC2 Redhat Linux 6

 

Assumptions

  1. Amazon Web Services (AWS):

    You should be familiar with the AWS platform, since this article does not provide a deep dive into details regarding administration and management of AWS services. Read the Amazon Web Services (AWS) - Getting Started on the Talend Help Center for information on all the AWS functionalities that Talend provides.

  2. Talend:

    This article shows the installation and configuration steps to set up Talend MDM only. Configuration of Talend ESB and Data Quality Portal installation is not covered.

 

Prerequisites

  1. You should be familiar with the MDM installation guide on the Talend Help Center.
  2. Make sure all the hardware and software requirements have been met before starting the installation.
  3. Read the AWS ec2 documentation.

 

Set up the RDS MySQL instance

  1. Select RDS in AWS and click Launch DB instance.

  2. Choose the Use case and click Next.

  3. Choose the DB instance class, Multi-AZ deployment, Storage type, and Allocated storage.

  4. Enter the DB instance identifier, Master username, and Master password. Click Next.

  5. In the Advanced Settings, contact your AWS Architect for the information needed to set up the Network & Security settings for Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Public accessibility, and VPC Security Groups.

  6. Choose the Database name and port from the Database options.

  7. Choose Encryption, Backup, Monitoring, and Maintenance options, then click Launch DB instance.

  8. Check to make sure the instance is available and ready to use.

  9. Open MySQL Workbench on a client machine and connect to the RDS instance that you just created. In the Hostname field, enter the endpoint of the RDS instance. Enter the Port and the credentials that you used while creating the RDS instance.

  10. Create a new schema for Talend Administration Center.

Set up the AWS EC2 Linux instance

  1. On the AWS console, go to EC2 and click Launch Instance. Then select the AMI.

  2. Choose the Instance Type, then click Next.

  3. Configure the instance details such as VPC, Subnets, and so on. Contact your AWS Architect to get this information.
  4. Add Storage, then click Launch.

Talend MDM installation

  1. Before starting the installation, SSH to the Linux server and make sure the following tasks are complete:

    • Set JAVA_HOME.
    • Create a Talend user and add it to the list of sudoers.
    • Copy the software and license file.
    • Unzip the package.

  2. Start the installer.

  3. Accept the license file and choose the installation directory.

  4. Select Advanced Install

  5. Select Custom.

  6. Review the choices of the components to be installed.

  7. Enter the username and password for the Security Administrator.

  8. Select Connect to a MySQL database and enter the RDS end point URL for MySQL. Then enter the username and password that you entered when you created the RDS instance.

  9. Select the Nexus Port.

  10. Select Embedded Tomcat8 with port set for the MDM component setup and select the port.

  11. Select the MDM database and Installation folder for the MDM Workflow Server.

  12. Configure the MDM database information. Enter the RDS instance information. In the DB Name, choose the default or enter MDM_${container}_641.

  13. Configure Talend Log server and IAM for TAC.

  14. Configure Job Server.

  15. Configure Services Installation.

  16. Enter y to start the installation.

  17. Copy the database driver and start the MDM server.
